Real Madrid are preparing to sign Benfica 's 23-year-old defender Alvaro Carreras .

While Carreras and Real Madrid's names have been linked for a long time, the Spanish giant has agreed to pay Carreras' purchase fee of 50 million euros.

The Spanish left-back will go to Madrid today to undergo medical checks and sign the official contract.

Carreras, who started his career in the Real Madrid youth academy, signed his first professional contract with English giant Manchester United at the age of 18.

Carreras, who spent the last two seasons at Benfica, scored 4 goals and 5 assists in 45 official matches last year.

Real Madrid made their fourth signing with Carreras.

Real Madrid had previously signed Huijsen, Alexander-Arnold and Mastantuono during the summer transfer window.
