Sporting is two-time national champion, 71 years later

Sporting were crowned national champions for the second time this Saturday, after beating Vitória de Guimarães 2-0, this Saturday in Alvalade.

The scoring was opened in the 55th minute with a goal from Pedro Gonçalves (Pote) and Gyökeres sealed the result in the 82nd minute.

The Lions, in a season full of ups and downs, with three coaches, won the championship twice, a feat that had not happened for more than 70 years.

Benfica, second in the league, drew 1-1 in Braga. The team from Minho, who finished fourth, were the first to score, with a penalty goal from Zalazar in the 24th minute. In the second half, Pavlidis equalized in the 63rd minute. The game was also marked by the sending off of João Moutinho.

FC Porto beat Nacional 3-0, with goals from Francisco Moura, Samu and Rodrigo Mora, confirming third place in the I Liga.
