EU ready to accept trade deal with US

The European Union (EU) is open to accepting a trade deal with the US that includes a universal 10% tariff on many European exports, Bloomberg reports. However, according to the report, the bloc of 27 countries expects the US to commit to some exceptions to apply to strategic sectors, through lower tariffs to be applied to the pharmaceutical sector, alcoholic beverages, semiconductors and commercial aircraft.
According to sources close to the negotiations, the EU is also advocating for the application of quotas and exemptions to the automotive industry and car components, which have a 25% rate. There is also a desire to reduce the 50% rates applied to products such as steel and aluminum.
Bloomberg reports that the European Commission sees this issue as “slightly more favorable” for the US, but that it could still agree to such a deal.
The bloc of 27 has until July 9 to reach an agreement with the US administration before tariffs are raised.
So far, an official source from the European Commission has not commented on the news.
