Coach Carlos Carvalhal leaves Sporting de Braga by mutual agreement

Coach Carlos Carvalhal, who had a contract for one more season with Sporting de Braga, has left the technical command by mutual agreement with the club, the fourth-placed team in the I Liga de futebol announced today.
With Carlos Carvalhal, who returned to Braga in the season that has just ended after the president of the Minho team, António Salvador, fired Daniel Sousa on the first matchday, assistant coaches João Mário, Filipe Antunes, João Meireles and Tiago Pires also leave the club.
António Salvador highlighted the coach's “courage”, in a “demanding moment” for Sporting de Braga, stressing that the coach's contribution will “endure” in the Club's history.
“I would like to thank Carlos Carvalhal and his technical team for the work they have done, their dedication to the project and the great collaboration we have maintained throughout the season. I recognise and praise the courage he has shown at a demanding time for Sporting de Braga, and I am personally grateful to him for that”, said the manager.
António Salvador’s “understanding” that “it is necessary to start a new cycle, with new technical leadership, in no way conflicts with the enormous appreciation” for Carlos Carvalhal.
“The merit of the work done for the club is undeniable and will endure,” he says.
Also quoted by the Sporting de Braga website, Carlos Carvalhal, 59 years old, highlights the “difficult mission” he accepted in August last year, considering that it was “accomplished”.
“I accepted this difficult mission out of love for Sporting de Braga and because of the relationship I have had with president António Salvador for decades. I reach the end of this journey with a sense of mission accomplished and I thank all those who supported us throughout the season,” he said.
The note on the official website also states that Carlos Carvalhal leaves Sporting de Braga as the “coach with the most victories at the club (92 triumphs in 167 official games)”.
“Carlos Carvalhal has his name written in golden letters in the history of Sporting de Braga, with the conquest of the Portuguese Cup (2020/21), in the centenary year”, reads the note on the Braga team's official website.
