Benfica guarantees that Ángel Di María will compete in the Club World Cup

Argentine footballer Ángel Di María, who will leave Benfica at the end of the season, will represent the 'encarnados' at the Club World Cup, between June 14 and July 13, in the United States, the Lisbon club announced today.
“Ángel Di María remains fully focused on winning the Portuguese Cup and will be part of Benfica's participation in the Club World Cup, a competition that represents an important milestone both for the player and for the club's history”, wrote the 'eagles' on their official website.
On Saturday, after the 1-1 draw with Sporting de Braga, in Minho, for the 34th and final round of the I Liga, the 37-year-old Argentine international winger, whose contract with the Lisbon team ends at the end of June, took to social media to reveal that he would no longer play for Benfica in the championship, but did not clarify whether he would participate in the competition on North American soil.
A product of Rosario Central, the Argentine made his European debut with Benfica in 2007/08, spending three seasons at Luz before moving to Real Madrid, before moving to Manchester United, Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus, before returning to Benfica in 2023/24.
With the draw in Braga, Benfica finished the Portuguese I League in second place, two points behind Sporting, who secured their second title after beating Vitória de Guimarães at home (2-0).
