Abel 'renews love' for Palmeiras, and Leila promises renewal 'in advance'

The presence of one of Abel Ferreira 's agents at Allianz Parque during the match against Bolívar, this Thursday, made the possibility of renewing the coach's contract with Palmeiras the main topic of the press conference, after the 2-0 victory. The coach then took the opportunity to renew his "love" with the green and white club.

"You know how much I like being here, not only because we have done what I wanted to do for so long, which was to have a very competitive team. We have been working hard for this, but if we lose three games, they will say that it is the end of Abel's cycle, it is better not to renew because he is not that good, he is not hungry. That is how it works. It is a great source of pride, not just today, and the president knows what I think and what you have to know is that I am with my heart and soul and super motivated at Palmeiras. I don't need to say anything else", said the coach in a press conference.

The coach has a contract with the club until December 2025. When asked about the contract renewal, the Portuguese coach dodged the question. "I have nothing to say. The president has already spoken about it more than once. It is a great honor and pride to be the coach of Palmeiras and to have Palmeiras doing everything, but I want to say that Palmeiras does not need to do absolutely anything else. We will do as we have always done. The most important thing is to help my players and with time, affection, respect, everything will be decided for what is best for Palmeiras, which is the most important thing."

On Thursday afternoon, Leila Pereira spoke to the press at the FIFA Congress in Luque, Paraguay. She reiterated her desire to keep the coach until the end of his term in December 2027.

"We have started to talk (about the renewal) . Our football director will talk to Abel's agent. But it is very clear that my desire is for him to stay with us until the end of my term, December 2027. Abel, for me, is the greatest coach in the history of Palmeiras", declared the president.

According to Leila, the renewal should not be decided at the end of the year, when the contract ends, but rather in advance. She also commented on the speculation of Abel Ferreira in the Brazilian national team.

"I always support the ability, whether foreign or Brazilian. I am confident that my coach will remain at Palmeiras. The CBF has never consulted regarding Abel. For Palmeiras and for him, it is an honor to be remembered at this moment," he said.
