Tomás Melo Gouveia from the Algarve achieved 3rd place in the VI Solverde Players Championship, held on Thursday, May 15, at the Oporto Golf Club, in Espinho.

After being champion of the inaugural tournament of this new Professional Golf Circuit, the Montebelo Golf Classic, last month, the Algarve player from the HotelPlanner Tour, 2nd European division, scored 139 (-3), delivering cards of 67 and 72, which guaranteed him a prize of 1500 euros.

The winner of the event was Daniel da Costa Rodrigues, who won his second professional title — and the first on this circuit promoted by the Portuguese Golf Federation and the PGA of Portugal.

The professional represented the Club de Golf de Miramar (Vila Nova de Gaia) and won the VI Solverde Players Championship with a good score of 133 strokes, 9 under Par, after rounds of 65 and 68, pocketing the main prize of 3 thousand euros.

“I have been doing things well for some time now and this week just proves that better things will come in the future,” stressed the 22-year-old player, who admitted that it had not been easy.

Vasco Alves, the home player, fought until the end for victory, even tying for the lead with Daniel da Costa Rodrigues, but finished in second place, with 137 strokes (-5), the result of rounds of 69 and 68, receiving 1,950 euros.

Another highlight is Tomás Bessa, who continues to recover well from the serious wrist injury that kept him out of competition for a year. Bessa had the best lap of the tournament (65), jumping to 4th place (-2) and taking home 1,200 euros.

Amateur Miguel Cardoso, national champion, also shone by being the best among the non-professionals, finishing in 5th place overall, with 142 strokes (70+72), equaling the course's Par.

The competition had 33 players, including 10 nationally renowned amateurs, including Miguel Cardoso (national amateur champion), Pedro Mendes (national amateur runner-up) and Afonso Oliveira (finalist of the FPG/BPI Cup).
