One match, two interrupted streaks. Four goals in the Upper Silesian derby.

One match, two interrupted streaks. Four goals in the Upper Silesian derby.

The visiting coach, Daniel Myśliwiec, noted before the match that no one in the Ekstraklasa can win four games in a row, and that his team's quality is sufficient to win. It turned out that – at least on Saturday – his predictions were proven correct. Piast ended a disastrous streak of four league matches without a win, while also interrupting the Katowice team's excellent run of victories in their last three matches in the PKO BP Ekstraklasa.

The first half was a disaster for Katowice. In the ninth minute, their coach, Rafał Górak, was forced to make a substitution due to an injury to midfielder Mateusz Kowalczyk. The hosts subsequently conceded two goals, including an own goal. First, a long throw from Patryk Dziczek in the GKS penalty area found Igor Drapiński, who slotted the ball into the net. Three minutes later, the Myśliwiec coach's team extended their lead. After Erik Jirka's shot, defender Lukas Klemenz made an unfortunate save that beat his own goalkeeper.

Katowice continued to push for a goal before the break. Borja Galan headed wide, Jesse Bosch's powerful long-range shot was saved by Frantisek Plach, and in the 44th minute, the referee initially awarded a penalty to GKS after a clash between Adam Zrelak and the defenders, but after video review, he overturned the decision. The visitors also had chances to change the score, but Rafał Strączek was forced to intervene after Hugo Vallejo's header.

In the second half, GKS continued to struggle to secure their opponents' goal, and the Gliwice team wasn't solely focused on defending their advantage. In the 61st minute, Jason Lokilo came close to surprising the home goalkeeper – almost from the penalty spot. The visitors remained more focused. The home goalkeeper managed to cope with Patryk Dziczek's "bomb," but was left one-on-one with Erik Jirka. The Piast winger capitalized on a precise pass from Gierman Barkowski.

The visitors then made several more attempts in the Gieksa penalty area, but to no avail. Late in the game, Klemenz reduced the Katowice defeat, securing the equalizer after Marcin Wasielewski's close-range header.
