Montemor-o-Velho: European champions in the Portuguese canoeing team at the Junior and U-23 World Championships

Montemor-o-Velho: European champions in the Portuguese canoeing team at the Junior and U-23 World Championships

Canoeists Pedro Casinha, Gustavo Gonçalves and Beatriz Fernandes stand out in the Portuguese team at the junior and under-23 world championships that will take place between July 23 and 27 in Montemo-o-Velho, Coimbra.

In June, Casinha and Gustavo were part of the K4 500 meters team that was crowned absolute European champions in Racice, Czech Republic, along with Olympians João Ribeiro and Messias Baptista.

The pair will join forces in the under-23 K2 500m race, a distance in which they were world runners-up in 2022, in Hungary.

Pedro Casinha will also participate in the K1 200 meters, an event in which he was junior world champion in 2021.

In under-23, also noteworthy is Beatriz Fernandes, who, in 2022, was world champion, but in the junior category, in C1 200 meters, in addition to the bronze in the 1,000 meters, also in Szeged.

In that competition, the Portuguese canoeist also won silver in the mixed C2 500, with Martim Azevedo.

Because the World Championships will be held in Portugal, at the Montemor-o-Velho High Performance Center, with much lower logistical costs, the selection will be much larger than usual, including 59 athletes, with the aim of giving greater international experience to a wider group of athletes.
