Athletico causes dismissal of Serie B opponent

Amazonas announced the dismissal of coach Guilherme Alves after the 1-0 home defeat to Athletico , last Saturday (05), in the 15th round of Serie B.

Guilherme Alves, former Atlético-MG striker, spent 11 games in Amazonas during the Série B, with three wins, four draws and four losses. The coach only lost the game against Athletico in front of his fans, but did not keep the Amazonas club out of the relegation zone.

In addition to the coach, Amazonas announced the departure of assistant Xande Almeida.

Amazonas is second-to-last in Série B, with 14 points, just two less than Criciúma, the first team outside the relegation zone. The Santa Catarina team, however, still plays in the 15th round against second-placed Goiás, this Tuesday (08), at 7:30 pm, in Goiânia.

To replace Guilherme Alves, Amazonas signed coach Márcio Zanardi, who led Botafogo-SP in the first eight rounds of Série B.

Zanardi was fired after only one win at the start of the second division. Botafogo-SP beat Athletico 4-1 at Arena da Baixada, causing the dismissal of coach Maurício Barbieri.

The São Paulo club, however, lost the next two rounds and fired Zanardi. The current coach is Allan Aal, formerly of Coritiba and Paraná Clube .
