Mexican boxer Jorge Chino García lost by unanimous decision to Puerto Rican Zander Zayas, who became the new World Boxing Organization world champion (154 pounds).
García, 28, battled the Puerto Rican throughout the first round , but lost steam in the following rounds and never showed a clear strategy. Zayas, on the other hand, made good on his status as the favorite to take a clear victory.
The Mexican fighter entered the fight at the Madison Square Garden Theater after earning his eighth consecutive victory and defeating undefeated champion Charles Conwell by split decision. The Los Mochis native has a record of 33 wins and five losses; the San Juan native, meanwhile, has never tasted defeat and boasts an unblemished record of 21 victories.
Meanwhile, Emiliano El General Vargas lived up to expectations and knocked out Alexander Espinoza in the first round to earn his 15th professional win.
Less than a minute into the fight, the American of Mexican descent (20-4-1) landed a punch to his opponent's head, sending him to the canvas. The Ecuadorian boxer tried to get up but couldn't, and the referee stopped the fight. The official time of the bout was 42 seconds.

The Diablos Rojos del México offense had an explosive Saturday, finishing with 14 hits (six extra-base hits) on their way to a 12-3 victory over the Tigres de Quintana Roo (33-50) in the second game of the series, thus tying the matchup.
With this result, the Scarlet Gang reached 27 games this season in which they have scored 10 or more runs. Furthermore, thanks to yesterday's 12 runs, the squad reached 615 runs, 40 away from tying the 655 they achieved last season.
