Beating the Rockies

Beating the Rockies
  • Red Sox left fielder Jarren Duran warms up in the ninth inning.

Cedric Mullins hit his 100th career home run and 14th of the season off Venezuelan starter Antonio Senzatela before the Orioles scored nine runs in the seventh inning against two Rockies relievers in Baltimore's 18-0 victory over Colorado on Sunday.

Mullins joined Brady Anderson and Paul Blair among the Orioles with 100 home runs and 100 steals. He may have done so just in time; he faces free agency this offseason, and the 30-year-old could be traded to Baltimore before Thursday's deadline.

Trevor Rogers (4-1) pitched seven innings, allowing just one hit in his fourth straight quality start for Baltimore, and his ERA dropped to 1.49 in eight starts.

In Boston, Garrett Crochet struck out 10 in six innings, Mexican-American Jarren Duran hit a two-run triple and the Red Sox beat Clayton Kershaw and the Los Angeles Dodgers 4-2 yesterday.

Boston rookie Roman Anthony added an RBI double against Kershaw, and the Red Sox won for the third time in eight games since the All-Star break. Boston had won ten straight before the break.

Shohei Ohtani connected deep on the third pitch of the game for his 38th of the season, a day after his streak of five consecutive games with a home run came to an end.

One batter later, Dominican Teoscar Hernández hit one over the Green Monster.

BRYCE HARPER homered and Kyle Schwarber hit a two-run double after New York's 10th error in five games, lifting the Philadelphia Phillies to a 9-4 victory over the reeling Yankees on Sunday, who avoided a major injury scare for skipper Aaron Judge.

Trea Turner drove in two runs and Edmundo Sosa also homered for the Phillies, who opened a 9-1 lead. Philadelphia began the day a half-game behind the NL East-leading Mets.

Schwarber had six RBIs and Turner went 6-for-11 as Philadelphia outscored New York 21-9 in the first two games of the three-game series.

Shea Langeliers and Lawrence Butler homered, Nick Kurtz followed his historic four-homer game with two hits, and the Athletics won their third straight game, beating the Houston Astros 5-1.

One night after becoming the first major league rookie to hit four home runs in a game, Kurtz went 2-for-4 to extend his hitting streak to 13 games. During the streak, he's batting .549.

BO BICHETTE hit a two-run single to open the scoring in the eighth inning and the Toronto Blue Jays beat the slumping Detroit Tigers 6-1.

Ian Happ and Matt Shaw homered in the seventh inning, helping Cade Horton and the Cubs beat the White Sox 6-1 in the Chicago Cubs' home run.
