Schwazer returns to walking: he will run 10 km in a regional race in Veneto

Alex Schwazer is back on the march. tomorrow morning at 10:30 in San Biagio di Callalta (Treviso). The occasion will be the regional phase of the Absolute Society Championships: the athlete from Alto Adige, gold medalist at the Pachino Olympics in 2008 in the 50 km, will compete in the 10,000 meters with the colors of Atletica San Biagio, an amateur sports club to which he has been a member since last year.

Return after a farewell race

Last year, after finishing his second doping ban handed down on the eve of the 2016 Rio Games, he took part in what should have been both his comeback and his farewell: a 20 km race organized in Arco, Trentino, by the specialized online magazine Queen Atletica, one of the first to report the news of his return yesterday. On that occasion, Schwazer had to stop due to physical problems.

Schwazer 's two doping disqualifications

Schwazer, who also has two world bronzes (2005 and 2007) and a European gold (2010) in his list of honours, tested positive for erythropoietin in 2012, shortly before his participation in London 2012. He confessed to doping and served a 3-year and 9-month ban. Having returned to training under the guidance of Sandro Donati and then to competitions, he was stopped again for testing positive for testosterone and banned for eight years. Schwazer has always denied having taken testosterone and from there a long legal case began, which ended with the athlete being shelved from the criminal standpoint because "the fact does not exist". Sports justice, however, has never changed its line.
