After a stinging 5-2 loss in the quarter-finals of the US Open Cup against Nashville on July 10, DC United (the MLS team based in Washington) has terminated the contract of its coach Troy Lesesne and is preparing to formalize the appointment of René Weiler (51 years old) as coach, according to the Washington Post .

The former Servette FC coach and sporting director arrived in the American capital last Thursday to finalize negotiations with the MLS club. Until his work visa is issued, academy director Kevin Flanagan will assume interim duties, as was the case during Sunday's 2-1 defeat against the Los Angeles Galaxy in California.

According to the American media, Weiler is expected to become the highest-paid coach in the club's history, with a contract estimated at between 1.4 and 1.85 million US dollars per season (between 1.1 and 1.47 million francs per year).

Ranked 13th in the fifteen-team Eastern Conference (22 matches, 19 points), DC United have a disastrous defensive record and general manager Ally Mackay described Weiler's arrival as a "necessary reset" to get the season back on track.
