Jennifer Hermoso is once again missing from the Spanish European Championship squad – and lets her anger against coach Montse Tomé run wild.
Jennifer Hermoso's non-nomination for the European Football Championship is causing a new stir. Spain's longtime international is now openly criticizing her coach, Montse Tomé.
For Jennifer Hermoso, this is the fifth time in a row that she has been overlooked by Spain's national coach, Montse Tomé – this time with particularly bitter consequences: The 2025 European Championship in Switzerland will take place without the 35-year-old. A decision that Hermoso makes not only on sporting but also emotional grounds.
Since the beginning of 2024, Hermoso has been playing for Tigres Femenil in Mexico, where he has consistently performed well. Nevertheless, Tomé told Spanish radio station "Cadena Ser": "We evaluated her year, we talked to her coach, we did what we needed to do to know what we needed." He added: "Hermoso was upset and has to deal with it."
The European Championship squad for Germany has also been confirmed.

A few hours later, Hermoso herself spoke out via Platform X – and did so with clear words: "I have a clear conscience – even more so when I stay away from an environment with such negative energy." A conversation on equal terms, she hinted, is apparently no longer possible internally: "I tweet because it's the only way left to have a conversation."
She once again addressed the coach: "She should concentrate on making Spain European champions – even if that will work out without her, probably even better."
The fact that Hermoso remains in the spotlight two years after her World Cup triumph is not only due to her athletic prowess. The kissing scandal surrounding former federation president Luis Rubiales continues to reverberate: At the 2023 World Cup, Rubiales kissed her on the mouth without her permission during the medal ceremony – an incident that sparked outrage worldwide. In February 2025, Rubiales was finally fined and banned from all football-related activities for three years. He was also banned from any contact with Hermoso.
