This marks the end of Mendy's time in Zurich after just five months. The 31-year-old joined FC Zurich in mid-February and has since made just eight competitive appearances, in which he managed one assist.
The move to Zurich attracted much criticism. Mendy was arrested in 2021 on suspicion of multiple rapes. His then club, Manchester City, subsequently released him. Although Mendy was later acquitted, there is no question that he mistreated women.
FC Zurich's communication was irritating. They boasted about having signed a world-class player. In fact, Mendy was part of the French national team that won the 2018 World Cup in Russia. In 2017, Manchester City paid just under €60 million for Mendy. However, the club did not address his lifestyle when announcing the transfer.
