Ronan McGoldrick’s 58th minute point proved the difference as Killoe Emmet Óg edged a 2-9 to 1-11 win against Colmcille at Glennon Brothers Pearse Park for their 15th Longford senior football championship title.

Still unbeaten in county SFC finals, Killoe were pushed all the way in this one to earn their second Sean Connolly Cup success in three years.

Colmcille held a 0-4 to 0-2 lead after 20 minutes of this decider before their opponents cut their deficit down to a point and then hit the net on the eve of half-time via a deflected effort from Mark Hughes.

Colmcille moved back in front after 12 minutes of the second-half before conceding a Cian Farrelly goal and a fisted Mickey Quinn point that put Killoe into a three-point lead.

Farrelly added another point before last year’s runners up got a timely goal from Cathal McCabe and Jack Macken’s two-pointer from a free had them ahead with 12 minutes remaining.

However, Colmcille wouldn’t be able to score again and after Danny Mimnagh levelled it up again, McGoldrick fisted over the winner for Killoe as they secured their fourth SFC crown in seven years.
