Former Offaly Star Scores Goal Of The Season Contender In County Semi-Final

Former Offaly Star Scores Goal Of The Season Contender In County Semi-Final

Tullamore may have gotten the better of Rhode GAA in their Offaly Senior Football Championship semi-final but Ruairi McNamee had a moment to savour despite his side's defeat.

It was an inconsistent performance from Tullamore at O'Connor Park but they had enough in the tank to beat their county rivals 1-18 to 2-11.

The former Offaly player produced a real contender for goal of the year with the clock in the red, as he limited the damage for Rhode.

In their best passage of play of the match, Rhode showed some slick passing play in the closing stages, finding McNamee 15 metres out from goal.

A shot from distance felt unlikely but McNamee drilled a stunning strike drilling the ball into the top corner of the net.

An absolute screamer. The commentary, it must be said, did the score absolute justice too. Unfortunately, it was not enough to launch a late comeback for Rhode.

These two clubs have been the dominant force in Offaly football for decades, with Tullamore looking to win a landmark championship title in 2025. Having won three of the last four county titles, a triumph in 2025 would draw them level with Rhode on top of the county's roll of honour with 31 senior titles.

That is sure to be an added motivation as they prepare for a county final over the coming weeks, with Ferbane waiting for them in the decider after their victory over Edenderry earlier today.
