The last few weeks of club championship action has provided us with plenty of exciting moments around the country, but there have been few more dramatic incidents than one witnessed in Louth over the weekend.

The game in question featured St Patrick's and St Mochta's in the Louth Senior Football Championship, with the pair battling it out for a quarter-final spot.

St Patrick's found themselves in a rather odd spot coming into the game. They knew that a one-point defeat would be enough to see them advance to the knockout rounds, with that result being also eliminating their opponents even if they won the game.

As luck would have it, such a scenario would play out on the day.

St Mochta's would hold a two-point lead in the game deep in injury time, a result that would have been enough to see them through to the quarter-finals.

However, St Patrick's would then be awarded a free on the 65-metre line. Despite being well out from goal, former Louth goalkeeper Marty McEneaney would step up to nail a monster kick.

The ball would be touched before it made its way over the bar, meaning the kick was only worth one point. However, that was enough to see his club through to the quarter-finals on the back of a one-point defeat.

Speaking to Clubber after the game, McEneaney had a great line about wanting to silence the crowd with his effort.

"I heard the crowd shouting at me 'kick it short kick it short', but I says NO!" πŸ—£οΈ

I've seen a few boys, I heard the crowd shouting at me 'kick it short, kick it short'.

I says 'no pretend it's a kickout and let it go'. Once I seen it in the air with only big boys in there, I knew they were going to slap it over or it was going to go over. Thankfully it went over...

It was that far out that I said it was going to be tight going over, but once we got the one point out of it it was safe to get us through the group, so delighted...

It probably goes back to Steve Williams with Louth a few years ago, he had a certain way of coaching. It's all core work and stuff like that. It's all about technique and getting it right, thank god it went over.

It certainly did the job.

St Patrick's will now advance to the quarter-finals of the Louth Senior Football Championship, while St Mochta's have been condemned to an early exit.
