Netanyahu's son changed his name out of fear

Netanyahu's son changed his name out of fear

It has been revealed that Avner Netanyahu, the son of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, changed his name out of fear before going to the UK for his education in 2022. According to local media reports, Avner Netanyahu changed his name to Avi Segal, enrolled in university in the UK under this name and bought an apartment.

It has been revealed that Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu's son Avner, who went to the UK for his education in 2022, when he was in opposition , changed his name to Avi Segal out of fear of being recognised by the surname "Netanyahu" in the region with a large Muslim population.

Avner, who changed his name on his Israeli ID to Avi Segal using his grandmother's surname, said that he also changed his name on his driver's license and passport, and that he was afraid to travel with that name in a country where Muslims live.

Avner Netanyahu stated in his statement to the Israeli publication Calcalist that the name change was legal and was registered with the Ministry of Interior:

"I changed the name on my ID card at the Israeli Ministry of Interior, then my passport and driver's license. It's a package deal. We reported everything to the tax authorities in Israel and the UK. All my actions were completely legal, both here and there."

Avner Netanyahu, who now works for a consultancy firm, also said the name change was made due to security concerns. His father was an opposition leader at the time and was denied protection from Shin Bet (Israel's internal security service) while he was studying abroad.

It was reported that Avner, who was revealed to have bought a flat in England for 502 thousand pounds under the name Avi Segal, made the purchase in cash, then started his master's degree at Oxford University by hiding his connection with his father, and his name was listed as Avi Segal in the school records.

According to Israeli law, there is no need to notify the tax office for properties purchased abroad that are worth less than 2 million Israeli shekels, the report said, and it was emphasized that Avner's apartment, which he bought when the pound was weakest against the shekel, was not notified because it cost 1.97 million shekels. When asked about the source from whom he bought the apartment, Avner said the source was his family.

"RETURNED TO ISRAEL AFTER OCTOBER 7" It was noted that Avner returned to Israel from the UK after October 7, 2023. The Israeli press wrote that the Netanyahu family has many properties, and that the apartment Avner bought in the UK is one of them.

NETANYAHU'S OTHER SON SUMMONED TO TESTIFY Meanwhile, it was reported that Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu's other son, Yair, was summoned to testify by the Israeli police's anti-corruption unit "Lahav 433" as part of the ongoing investigation into the issuance of diplomatic passports to people who were not entitled to them.

It was reported that Yair was suspected of having obtained a diplomatic passport despite not being entitled to one, and that Israel's domestic intelligence agency Shin-Bet (Shabak) believed it was not necessary.
