Sporting completes acquisition of Alvaláxia commercial space

Sporting completes acquisition of Alvaláxia commercial space

Sporting has completed the acquisition of the Alvaláxia commercial space, adjacent to the José Alvalade Stadium, in Lisbon, the two-time national football champion announced today, in a transaction valued at 17 million euros (ME).

“The acquisition of Alvaláxia constitutes a milestone of great importance in the path defined by the club to establish itself as an axis of entertainment excellence on a global scale” , observed the emblem presided by Frederico Varandas, in a statement.

On October 5, 2024, Sporting members approved the purchase of Alvaláxia with 96.09% of favorable votes, at a General Assembly (AG) held at Pavilhão João Rocha, in Lisbon, one month after the presentation of this proposal by the club's management.

At the time, the president of the General Assembly (MAG) 'leonina', João Palma, did not clarify what type of purchase was approved, whether direct acquisition or through shares, quotas or participation units representing the share capital of the owner entity.

"The new space will become part of the 'Cidade Sporting' project, complementing the renovation work currently underway on the west side of the José Alvalade Stadium. For the 2026/2027 season, renovations are planned on the east side, which will enrich the offerings and experience for fans and visitors," he explained.

The repurchase of Alvaláxia to be converted into a new museum is part of the strategic plan for the next decade released last year by Sporting, which sold the commercial space in 2007, during the presidency of Filipe Soares Franco.

"This step represents the fulfillment of one of the central goals defined in the strategic plan, in which Sporting established that 'Sporting City is an innovative project that consolidates the vision that sport is a means to achieve improved well-being in people's lives. The concept was conceived to provide a holistic experience, revitalizing the surroundings of José Alvalade Stadium and João Rocha Pavilion, in a multifunctional space that integrates sports, art, culture, and technology," he stated.

According to the 'lions', the project for the new experience for Alvaláxia is under development and the club will present the new features in a phased manner throughout the next season, as they are implemented.
