The president of the Roraima Football Federation, Samir Xaud, officially announced his candidacy for the presidency of the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) this Sunday morning (18).

The 41-year-old doctor registered the ticket, named "Football for All: Transparency, Inclusion and Modernization", and will be the only candidate for the presidency of the entity. The election is scheduled for next Sunday (25), at the CBF headquarters, in Rio de Janeiro.

Who is Samir Xaud ?

Born in Boa Vista, the capital of Roraima, Samir de Araújo Xaud is an infectious disease specialist and also a specialist in sports medicine. He is also a businessman and owns a training center in Boa Vista, focused on health, well-being and physical activities.

Xaud has served as director of the General Hospital of Roraima and is also the owner of an infectious disease practice.

The doctor was elected, at the beginning of 2024, as president of the Roraima Football Federation (FRF), replacing his own father, Zeca Xaud, who has held the position since the 1980s, and will end his term in 2026.

During the FRF election, Samir had the participation of his father, which symbolized the continuity of the Xaud family in the presidency of Roraima football, although the doctor will only officially assume the position in 2027.

How do CBF elections work ?

For a ticket to be registered, it must have the support of at least 8 federations and 5 different clubs. This rule has been in effect since the regulations were introduced in 2017.

Previously, in 2022, there was a change in the rule, allowing support from only 4 federations and 4 other clubs, however, under the leadership of Ednaldo Rodrigues, the change was overturned, returning to the 2017 rules.

In addition to the CBF holding an election for a new president, 8 vice-presidents, 3 full members and 3 alternate members of the Fiscal Council will also be elected.

Vice-presidents of Samir Xaud's ticket:

Among the eight chosen by the doctor, five are representatives of federations; see

  • Ednailson Leite Rozenha (president of the Amazon Federation)
  • José Vanildo da Silva (president of the Rio Grande do Norte Federation)
  • Michelle Ramalho Cardoso (president of the Paraíba Federation)
  • Ricardo Augusto Lobo Cluck Paul (president of the Paraense Federation)
  • Rubens Renato Angelotti (president of the Santa Catarina Federation)

The other three are:

  • Fernando José Macieira Sarney (current CBF interventor)
  • Flavio Diz Zveiter (former president of the STJD)
  • Gustavo Dias Henrique (former Director of Institutional Relations at CBF)

Registration for other candidates can be done until 6:00 pm next Tuesday (20). Once the decision is made, there will be a vote to determine the next president of the CBF. According to the current statute of the entity, clubs from Series A and B participate in the election, as do the Federations, each with a weight.

Brazilian Championship B Clubs: weight 1

State Federations: weight 3
