Rally of Portugal remains in the World Championship until 2028

The Rally of Portugal will continue to be part of the World Championship (WRC) calendar until 2028, Carlos Barbosa, president of the Automóvel Clube de Portugal (ACP), told Lusa today.

“It is an honour for us (organisers) and also for the country. Extending this partnership until 2028 proves, once again, the trust and satisfaction that the WRC promoter has in this organisation and in the work we have been developing”, said the director.

Last year, the president of the ACP had already announced the extension of the partnership until 2026, something that has now been extended for another two years, keeping the Rally of Portugal in the top category of the sport until 2028.

Held for the first time in 1967, the Rally of Portugal has been part of the World Rally Championship (WRC) since its creation in 1973, the year in which it was the third event on the calendar.

Over the decades, it has established itself as one of the most recognized events in the sport, having been elected five times as the best rally in the world.

Between 2002 and 2006 he was absent from the WRC, returning in 2007 with an edition held in the Algarve.

Since 2009, it has remained uninterruptedly on the world calendar, organized by the Automóvel Clube de Portugal (ACP).

The 2025 edition officially starts this afternoon, in Coimbra, with the pilots having done the 'shakedown' this morning in Baltar, Paredes municipality.
