Portugal eliminated in the round of 16 of volleyball by Bulgaria

Portugal was eliminated today in the round of 16 of the Volleyball World Cup, taking place in the Philippines, after losing 3-0 to Bulgaria, who will face the winner of the duel between the USA and Slovenia in the quarter-finals.

Superior in attacking and blocking actions, despite accumulating errors on the serve, the Bulgarian team was always on top of the game, except for a good Portuguese reaction in the second set, and won by partial scores of 25-19, 25-23 and 25-12.

Portugal, second in Group D, behind the USA and ahead of Cuba and Colombia, showed some inconsistency in its game, which would have to be perfect to beat Bulgaria, the undefeated leader of Group E, with victories over Germany, Slovenia and Chile.

Returning 23 years later to the main stage of world volleyball, after the historic eighth place achieved in 2002, in Argentina, Portugal bids farewell to the Philippines in the 'round of 16', but leaving a good image against a medal contender.
