Mourning the death of Bernardinho's mother, the volleyball team loses and faces complications at the World Cup

The Brazilian men's volleyball team suffered its first defeat at the World Championships in the Philippines this Wednesday in Pasay City. Brazil lost to Serbia 3-0, with scores of 22-25, 20-25, and 22-25. The team played in mourning following the death of Maria Ângela Resende, coach Bernardinho's mother, hours before the match began. With this result, Brazil is rooting for China to win at least two sets against the Czech Republic this Thursday at 10 a.m. to continue in the competition.

With Cachopa, Maique, Arthur, Alan, Judson and Lucarelli, the team suffered at the beginning of the game with the Serbian balance, which had the first advantage on the scoreboard with 4/3.

Both teams demonstrated excellent reception, and the match was very even. An ace from Flávio tied the score at 17 points. Darlan blocked the ball, and the Serbs took a 20-18 lead. Alan leveled the score at 21 points. Alan blocked the ball, and Luburic, with eight points, closed out the first set for Serbia.

The second set was a tight affair. Flávio's block leveled the score at six points. Brazil made two errors, and Perco aced Serbia to an 11-8 lead. Brazil lost its balance, and the score reached 14-9.

Nervous, Brazil managed to reduce the deficit to three points, but made several mistakes and Luburic led Serbia until the end of the second set: 25/20.

Brazil continued to struggle in the third set. Everything was going right for the Serbs, who hit two serves down the line to make it 6-2. Judson scored two points, Flávio hit a powerful shot into the middle of the net, and Brazil closed the gap to 11-10.

Stefanovic and Peric put Serbia back in the lead: 14-11. Honorato scored two attack points and one on serve: 18-15. Bernardinho brought on several players from the bench, but was unsuccessful: 25-22 Serbia and 3 sets to 0.
