Miguel Oliveira was 0.125 seconds away from going straight into Q2 at the Italian GP

Portuguese rider Miguel Oliveira (Yamaha) was just 0.125 seconds away from going straight into the second phase of qualifying (Q2) for the MotoGP Italian Grand Prix after today's timed practice session.
The Portuguese rider completed his best lap in 1:45.404 minutes, finishing in 11th place on the timesheets, 0.770 seconds behind the fastest of the day, Spaniard Maverick Viñales (KTM), who beat Italian Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati) by 0.110 seconds, with Spaniard Marc Márquez (Ducati) in third, 0.146 seconds behind.
The 10 fastest drivers in this timed practice session will qualify directly for the second phase of qualifying, while the rest, including the Portuguese driver, will have to compete in the first phase (Q1), in which the two fastest drivers will advance to Q2.
During the morning, Miguel Oliveira had been 13th, behind his Prima Pramac Yamaha teammate, Australian Jack Miller, who was 11th, and Spaniard Alex Rins (Yamaha), who was 12th.
However, in the timed practice session held in the afternoon, Miguel Oliveira was faster than his teammate. Jack Miller was only 13th.
The two riders from the official Yamaha team managed to go straight through to the second phase. Frenchman Fabio Quartararo (Yamaha) was fifth and Alex Rins seventh.
Therefore, Miguel Oliveira will have to compete in Q1, where he will try to get one of the first two places, which will give access to the next phase.
The sprint race takes place in the afternoon.
The Italian GP is the ninth of 22 races this season. Marc Márquez heads into the race leading the championship with 233 points, while Miguel Oliveira is 23rd with three points.
