Luis Vieira and António Palavra win in the Loire Valley

uís Vieira and António Palavra have once again made history in extreme canoeing competitions, this time winning a K2 competition. The two canoeists from Aveiro won the “Loire 725”, a competition held last week on France’s largest river, and became the first Portuguese to achieve victory over a long distance. Between Roanne and Paimboeuf, Luís Vieira and António Palavra, in a kayak from the Portuguese brand Elio Kayaks and sponsored by Betano Portugal, covered the 725 kilometres of the second largest canoeing ultramarathon in 58 hours, 40 minutes and 33 seconds, beating the other crews from around the world who venture into this type of challenge.
After having already been, last year, the first Portuguese representatives in the Yukon 1000, the biggest of all extreme canoeing events held between Canada and Alaska, in which they finished in a fantastic third place, Luís Vieira, a 52-year-old optometrist, and António Palavra, a 53-year-old mathematics teacher, once again demonstrated that they are cut out for an extreme challenge held over six stages.
