Benfica wanted a solid victory to increase their chances of progressing in the Club World Cup and they managed to score the biggest win of the century in an international competition. To find a similar triumph we have to go back almost 27 years, to August 12, 1998, when the reds beat Beitar Jerusalem, at Luz, by the same score, in the first leg of the second qualifying round of the Champions League.
