Leandro Ramos qualifies for the javelin throw

Portuguese Leandro Ramos qualified today for the javelin throw final at the Tokyo 2025 World Athletics Championships, with 76.65 meters, on his third attempt.

The first and only Portuguese to compete in the discipline at the World Championships, who was 22nd in Oregon2022 and 31st in Budapest2023, did not go beyond 19th place in the first group, after starting the qualification with 74.46 and continuing with 74.43.

The Benfica thrower, born in Oliveira do Bairro, aged 24, who declined to make any statements in the mixed zone of the Japan National Stadium, is the current national record holder, with 84.74 meters achieved in 2022, and this year he managed no better than 81.94.

Those who qualified directly for Thursday's final at 9:24 pm local time (1:24 pm in Lisbon) were throws of more than 84.50 meters or the first 12 of the two groups in competition.
