Lamine Yamal's father criticizes Ballon d'Or selection: 'Something very strange happened here'

Summary Lamine Yamal's father criticized the choice of Ousmane Dembélé as the winner of the Ballon d'Or, considering the decision unfair and insinuating irregularities in the result.

The second place in the Ballon d'Or awards did not go down well with the family of young star Lamine Yamal , who finished behind winner Ousmane Dembélé , at an event held this Monday in Paris. Monir Nasraoui, the Barcelona player's father, expressed his discontent after the result.

"I think Lamine Yamal is the best player in the world, by far, by a huge margin. Not because he's my son, but because he's the best in the world. I don't think there are any rivals," Nasraoui said in an interview with the El Chiringuito program.

Not even winning the Kopa Trophy for best young player, won for the second time by the 18-year-old Barcelona star, was able to minimize the tone of the patriarch's criticism.

"We have to say that something very strange happened here. But next year, the Ballon d'Or will be ours. I think it's the biggest... I won't say robbery, but rather moral damage to a human being," he concluded.

In this edition of the Ballon d'Or, the highest-placed Brazilian was Barcelona striker Raphinha , who finished fifth, behind Liverpool's Egyptian Mohamed Salah. Completing the top three, Portuguese Vitinha (Paris Saint-Germain) came in third, behind winner Dembélé (PSG) and Yamal.
