João Fonseca confirms best ranking of his career and Alcaraz leads the list after the US Open; see the top 10

Rio de Janeiro tennis player João Fonseca confirmed his best position in the rankings this Monday after the end of the US Open , the last Grand Slam of the year. The Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) released the list in the early hours of this Sunday and the Brazilian appears in 42nd place .

Eliminated in the second round of the American tournament, he moved up three places in the rankings. Before this update, the 19-year-old's best position was 44th. In his Major campaign, he debuted with a victory over Serbian Miomir Kecmanovic and was later defeated by Czech Tomás Machac.

His improved ranking represents significant milestones for the young competitor. He becomes the ninth-highest ranked player in Brazil and surpasses Flávio Saretta in the ATP rankings.

Gustavo Kuerten, formerly ranked number one in the world, tops this list. Next are names like Thomaz Bellucci, Thomaz Koch, Fernando Meligeni, Luiz Mattar, Marcos Hocevar, Jaime Oncins, and Carlos Alberto Kirmayr, whose peak was 36th in the men's world rankings.

With 1,129 points, his next match will be the Shanghai Masters 1000, which begins on October 1st. Before that, in September, he will take to the court to compete in the Davis Cup.

Alcaraz leads ranking with US Open title

Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz returns to the top of the ATP rankings. He achieved the top spot with his victory over former No. 1 Jannik Sinner in the final played this Sunday, defeating the Italian 6-2, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4.

The conclusion of the American Grand Slam brought about some changes among the top ten players. Serbian Novak Djokovic moved up three spots and is now ranked fourth in the world. American Taylor Fritz dropped one spot and is now ranked fifth.

Britain's Jack Draper also entered this "musical chairs" and moved from fifth to seventh. Lorenzo Musetti and Karen Kachanov moved up one place in the rankings and now occupy ninth and tenth place, respectively.
