Football: União FC and Mocidade decide in Poiares a place in the Elite

The list of teams that will make up the Elite Division of AF Coimbra in the 2025/2026 season is almost defined. For now, there is only one place left to fill – that of the winner of the playoff between the third-from-bottom of the Elite, União FC, and the 3rd-placed team in the Honor Division, Mocidade.

As is known, the champion of the Elite of AF Coimbra, Naval 1893, was promoted to the Portuguese Championship, and Moinhos and Lagares da Beira were demoted. In “compensation”, the first two of the Honor Division, Penelense and Eirense, will compete in the Elite next season.

Yesterday, however, it was already known that the playoff – decided in a single game, on neutral ground – will take place next Sunday, May 18, at the Rui Manuel Lima Stadium, in Vila Nova de Poiares, starting at 5 pm.

It is worth mentioning that this decisive match is, after all, a municipal derby, as it pits two teams from the municipality of Penacova against each other: União FC from Gavinhos (Figueira de Lorvão), and Mocidade FC, from Cheira (Penacova).
