Fernando Pimenta bronze medal in K1 1,000 meters

Canoeist Fernando Pimenta won the bronze medal today in the K1 1,000 meter event at the World Championships, Portugal's second podium finish in Milan.

Starting on lane seven, Pimenta completed his performance in 3:26.16 minutes, just 66 hundredths of a second behind the gold medal of Hungarian Balint Kopasz, Olympic champion in Tokyo 2020, who beat Australian Thomas Green by 18 hundredths.

The Limiano, who was defending the title achieved in 2023 in Duisburg, Germany, now has three gold medals, two silver medals and three bronze medals in the World Track Championships, in this Olympic discipline alone.

This is Portugal's second podium in Italy, after the K4 500 gold medals of Gustavo Gonçalves, João Ribeiro, Messias Baptista and Pedro Casinha.
