EU gives 12 million euros to the Cape Verde Armed Forces

The European Union (EU) approved this Tuesday an assistance measure for the Armed Forces of Cape Verde worth 12 million euros over a period of two years, to reinforce the country's military capacity.
According to a statement from the Council of the EU, the first assistance measure under the European Peace Facility for Cabo Verde also aims to protect the archipelago's sovereignty at sea and improve regional maritime security .
The assistance measure will also strengthen Cape Verde's cooperation with the navies of EU Member States , notably within the framework of the Coordinated Maritime Presence initiative.
Tuesday's decision is part of the framework of the EU-Cape Verde Special Partnership and in support of its stability and security pillar.
The European Peace Facility will provide the Cabo Verde Armed Forces with equipment and services related to patrolling and surveillance, including the delivery of an ocean patrol vessel and training activities.
The European Peace Facility was created in March 2021 to finance actions under the common foreign and security policy aimed at preventing conflicts, preserving peace and strengthening international security and stability.
