Buyers of Vieira's shares in Benfica SAD remain silent until the end of the season

The buyers of Benfica SAD shares held by former president Luís Filipe Vieira will remain silent until the end of the football season, assuring Lusa today of their lack of interest in getting involved in the company's sporting decisions.
“We do not intend to get involved in Benfica SAD's sporting decisions”, reads the statement from Lenore Sports Partners (LSP), sent today to the Lusa news agency, shortly after the buyers were confirmed, in a statement sent to the Securities Market Commission (CMVM).
The 753,615 shares of Benfica SAD pledged to the former president of the club Luís Filipe Vieira were purchased by the Lenore Sports Partners fund, the sports company reported, which today identified the shareholder who now holds 5.24% of the capital.
“It is with great pride that Lenore Sports Partners (LSP) announces that it has become a qualified shareholder of Sport Lisboa e Benfica – Futebol, SAD, after recently acquiring a set of shares representing a percentage of more than 5% of the share capital and voting rights of Benfica SAD”, reads the statement from the North American fund.
Recalling “decades of experience in sport, finance, real estate, media and marketing”, LSP intends “to be a partner of the club as it navigates an increasingly competitive football landscape, exploring opportunities in markets and sectors where Benfica SAD has great potential for development”.
“The LSP team fully recognizes and respects that Sport Lisboa e Benfica belongs to its members and supporters in Portugal and around the world. As a new shareholder, LSP’s sole objective is to support the Benfica community, with deep respect for Benfica’s founding values,” the fund emphasizes in the same statement.
Jean-Marc Chapus and Elliott Hayes are the LSP managing partners mentioned in the statement, expressing their pride in the acquisition: “We are honored to become shareholders of Benfica SAD and are committed to being a productive partner that collaborates with the leadership of Benfica SAD and the club, including expanding revenue sources for Sport Lisboa e Benfica.”
"We appreciate and respect the long and exceptional culture of Benfica fans and we want to see Benfica winning for many years to come", they both said.
In this sense, and due to the decisive phase of the season, they promise silence, so that Benfica can compete for the men's and women's titles: “As this is a time when it is essential that we all focus on supporting the glorious team to win the two national trebles, the LSP will remain silent in the coming weeks”.
On Saturday, Benfica can add the Women's Portuguese Cup, in the final against Torreeense, to their fifth championship title and victory in the League Cup.
In the men's competition, Benfica also enters the 34th and final round on Saturday, with the same 79 points as Sporting, but at a disadvantage in the head-to-head, and will play the final of the Portuguese Cup on May 25, also against their Lisbon rivals, from whom they took the League Cup.
