Before the match, the number 26 said he was 'Team CR7' in comparison to the Argentine star and said he would do the traditional Portuguese celebration if he scored against the North American team.

Murilo's injury occurred during the play of Inter Miami's first goal, in the 16th minute. The defender was left behind in an attempt to reach Tadeo Allende in the sprint that only stopped when the ball hit the net.

Unable to continue on the field, Abel Ferreira put Bruno Fuchs in place of Murilo. Out of action, the defender saw Palmeiras suffer, but secure a place in the knockout stages with a 2-2 draw .
