Argentina and Uruguay face each other in the 2nd round of the Women's Copa América

This Tuesday, July 15th, the second round of Group A of the 2025 Women's Copa América will be played in Ecuador. At 6:00 PM (Brasília time), Uruguay will face Argentina in a South American derby. Later, at 9:00 PM (Brasília time), Peru will face the hosts, Ecuador. Both matches will take place at the Banco Guayaquil stadium in Sangolquí, in the Quito metropolitan area, home of Independiente del Valle.

Uruguay drew with Ecuador in the first round, but Argentina makes its debut this Tuesday. The 2006 champion — the only edition Brazil didn't win —Argentina enters as the favorite, especially because of its strong record against Uruguay. After all, it has won five of the six meetings between the teams in the competition's history, scoring 19 goals and conceding only two. Yamila Rodríguez is the Hermanas' standout player.

Ecuador and Peru are now seeking their first win. The Peruvians, who were thrashed 3-0 by Chile, are considered the weakest in the group. Therefore, there's no indication that the Ecuadorians will have any trouble winning. Furthermore, Karen Flores, Ecuador's standout performer who performed well in the opening match against the Uruguayans, has recovered and will play in the match.

Brazil is in Group B and opened with a 1-0 victory over Venezuela. The national team returns to action this Wednesday, July 16th, against Bolivia, which lost 4-0 to Paraguay in the first round.

Regulation

There are two groups of five teams. The top two from each group advance to the semifinals. The champion and runner-up qualify for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

However, the teams that finish third, fourth, and fifth will qualify for the 2027 Pan American Games, which will be held in Peru. However, if Peru finishes between third and fifth, the sixth-place team will also qualify for the Pan American Games.
