Angolan defender Samy and Brazilian midfielder Xavier reinforce Portimonense

Angolan defender Samy and Brazilian midfielder Xavier, both making their debut in Portuguese football, were yesterday presented as reinforcements for Portimonense , from the II Liga, which has already secured 11 new 'faces' for 2025/26.
Central defender Samy, 25, who signed for two seasons, with the option of a further one, arrived in the Algarve with the expectation of “helping the team return” to the top flight, he said at a press conference.
The Angolan player played for Bravos de Maquis, after also having represented Santa Rita, both from his home country.
Midfielder Xavier, 25, also promised to “work hard” for the Portimão club to “achieve the objective of moving up to the place it deserves to be”.
The player, on loan from Azuriz Futebol, in the Brazilian fourth division, for one season, with an option to buy, recalled having been coached by Portuguese coach Vítor Pereira at Corinthians, where he completed his training and made his senior debut.
Xavier, who considered himself a midfielder “with good [ability to] mark, pass and get into the penalty area”, also played for Avaí and Ituano.
Portimonense, 15th in the 2024/25 edition of the II Liga, heads into its second consecutive season in the second division, under the guidance of coach Tiago Fernandes, who succeeds Ricardo Pessoa.
The Portimão team, which has already had one win this pre-season, will make its home debut against Penafiel, in a game scheduled for the weekend of 9 and 10 August.
