The Polish team was already down 1-2 in sets, and it seemed the rejuvenated Asian team might be able to avenge the friendly match from a few days earlier. However, our volleyball team managed to turn the tables and will face the Italians in Saturday's semifinal.
If the Polish team had lost to China, they would have also lost their place on the podium of the FIVB rankings and could even have dropped to fifth place. However, they added 4.75 points to their tally for the 3-2 result, while the Chinese team lost the same number of points and dropped from fourth to fifth place.
Between Poland and China, there's also Japan, who will face Turkey on Thursday. Our team has a 10.31-point lead over fourth place. At best, Japan will gain 9.42 points after their quarterfinal, so even a 3-0 victory won't put them ahead of our team.
Italy tops the FIVB rankings with a huge lead, separating Poland by over 100 points. These two teams will face off in Saturday's Nations League semifinals. Brazil is in second place, approximately 35 points behind Italy.
