Montreal. Osaka wins, Siegemund prevails in German clash

Naomi Osaka's match against Ariana Arsenault also generated considerable interest. Firstly, because Ariana's brother, Nicholas, achieved a rather sensational victory in his first match in Toronto yesterday, but also because Osaka has now teamed up with Tomasz Wiktorowski (having finished her work with Patrick Mouratoglou the day before). Wiktorowski is already in Montreal, but he wasn't seen boxing with the Japanese player yesterday. We'll definitely see him in the next round. Osaka won quite convincingly 6-4, 6-2, and in the second round, she will face 13th-seeded Lyudmila Samsonova.

Yesterday in Montreal, we also saw Eugenie Bouchard retire. Cheered on by Canadian fans, Bouchard managed to extend her career by at least one more match, defeating Colombian Emiliana Arango in a closely fought 6-4, 2-6, 6-2. Bouchard's next opponent will be Belinda Bencic. The two players met 10 years ago in Toronto, where Bencic won that match and the entire tournament.

Today we will also see the highest seeded player in the tournament – Coco Gauff, and Canadian fans will once again have the opportunity to cheer on Victoria Mboko.
