Legends join forces to win an Olympic medal

Legends join forces to win an Olympic medal

Award-winning American alpine skier Lindsey Vonn has invited former elite athlete Aksel Lund Svindal to join her coaching staff. The Norwegian will help her prepare for next year's Olympic Games in Milan/Cortina d'Ampezzo.

In late December 2024, Vonn returned to World Cup competition after more than five years. She underwent surgery to implant two titanium elements into her right knee. She now plans to compete in the Winter Olympics.

Another legend of the slopes, Svindal, will help her prepare for the best possible performance.

The 42-year-old Norwegian has won four Olympic medals, including two gold (in the 2010 super-G and in the 2018 downhill). He is also a five-time world champion and a two-time overall World Cup winner (2006/07 and 2008/09 seasons).

He admitted he was a little surprised when Vonn called him, but "mostly honored."

"Having him officially join my team as we strive for the Olympics in Cortina is a huge boost. I believe Aksel will help me gain the extra edge I need on this ambitious journey. I'm grateful to have him on my team and couldn't have asked for a better partner," Vonn emphasized.

The American, who turns 41 in October, is one of the most decorated alpine skiers in history. She has won three Olympic medals, including a gold in the downhill in 2010 in Vancouver. She also has eight World Championship medals (two gold). She has won 82 World Cup events and four overall titles.
