Grzegorz Galica's silver medal at the Junior World Championships

Grzegorz Galica became the junior world vice-champion in the 12.5 km individual biathlon race in Oestersund, Sweden. Amelia Liszka was close to the podium in the 10 km race, losing the fight for third place by less than a second.
This is another success for the nearly 18-year-old Galica, who won three gold medals at the European Junior Championships in Altenberg, Germany, at the end of January, and won two gold medals at the 17th European Youth Winter Olympic Festival in Bakuriani.
Galica had two missed shots on Wednesday and was only 4.5 seconds behind Frenchman Antonin Guy, who made one mistake on the shooting range. The bronze was won by another biathlete from France, Leo Carlier, who was 9.4 seconds slower than the winner.
Igor Kusztal took 38th place, Kajetan Urbaniak was 60th, and Kazimierz Siwa did not finish the race.
In the women's competition, Liszka was fourth, 0.8 seconds behind the bronze medalist - Slovenian Mancy Caserman. First place was taken by Czech Ilona Plechacova, who was 55.7 seconds slower than the Pole, and the silver medal was won by Italian Carlotta Gautero. Just outside the top ten, in 11th place, was Majka Germata, and the next places were taken by Gabriela Gąsienica (64th) and Justyna Sinkiewicz (79th).
The competition in Oestersund will last until March 5.
