Canada, after victories over Slovenia and Latvia, faced France. The Maple Leafs were leading 2-0 after the first period and eventually triumphed 5-0. Bo Horvat scored two goals, and Will Cuylle, Sidney Crosby and Brandon Montour scored one each. The French had 15 shots on target, while the Canadians had 36.

In Group A, the Slovenians suffered their third defeat, this time losing to the Latvians 2:5. In Tuesday's Group B matches, Germany defeated Norway 5:2, and Hungary beat Kazakhstan 4:2.

After three rounds, three teams have a full nine points: Canada, Sweden and Germany.

The fourth round of group stage matches will be played on Wednesday. Four teams from Groups A and B will advance to the quarterfinals.

For winning three periods, three points are awarded, for winning in overtime or penalties - two points, and for losing in overtime or penalties - one point. (PAP)
