Hurkacz had a difficult match in the third round of the competition on the Apennine Peninsula. He faced Jakub Mensik. As it turned out, the Czech tennis player was a difficult opponent for the player from Wrocław. The match needed three sets to be decided, with tie-breaks having to decide the outcome of two of them. Ultimately, the Pole proved to be better.

Paul didn’t have such a difficult passage through the previous stages of the Rome event. In the third round he defeated Alex De Minaur in two sets. The biggest problems so far were caused by Tomas Machac, who the American needed three sets to defeat.
It is worth recalling that Hurkacz and Paul faced each other during last year's edition of the tournament in Rome. Then - also in the quarterfinals - the scales of victory were tipped in the favor of the player from the United States.
