Yucatan Lions: Despaigne fails again

The Lions experienced a nightmare second inning.
Banking on Cuban Odrisamer Despaigne to open a vital game, the "melenudos" collapsed in the second inning of yesterday's match against the Águila de Veracruz, in which the Veracruz team unleashed a huge six-run scoring spree.
And from that, the beasts could not rise.
Despaigne, one of the foreigners who has been the most lacking in the dugout this season, entered the game with an 8.71 ERA, high for an import. But he had a promising first inning, which he was able to get out without taking any damage.
In the second, however, the world collapsed for the Cuban, just as it did for his teammates, who couldn't wake up. The Eagle pecked Despaigne with five earned runs in just one and a third innings, scoring a total of six times in that inning.
The Cuban's performance was completely unfortunate. He already had a 9.34 ERA upon retirement, numbers too high for a foreign addition. It was a vital game.
And after that devastating attack, the Wildcats couldn't come back. Not even with starter Dinelson Lamet walking them four times in five innings. Despaigne's lackluster performance was compounded by his teammates' lack of timely hitting. Against Lamet, they went 1-for-7 with runners in scoring position. But overall, they were finished from the second inning.— Gaspar Silveira
