Ramírez leads the Guardians to another 9-4 victory.

Ramírez leads the Guardians to another 9-4 victory.

The Progressive Field crowd began chanting “Hedgey, Hedgey” in the seventh inning, imploring catcher Austin Hedges as he batted with runners on the corners and one out. Hedges hit a sacrifice fly to center field to give the Guardians an insurance run.

The atmosphere and energy are good in Cleveland right now, as the Guardians continue to play their best baseball of all of 2025. Last night they defeated the Marlins 9-4 to win their fifth consecutive series.

Dominican José Ramírez went 3-for-4 with three singles, two stolen bases, and three runs scored.

With 977 runs scored, Ramírez surpassed Kenny Lofton for third place in franchise history. He trails only Earl Averill (1,154) and Tris Speaker (1,079).

It marks the first time Cleveland has won five straight series in a single season since September 16 to October 5, 2022. That stretch marked the end of the Guardians' regular season, and they advanced to the playoffs that year.

Clevelanders are hoping this regular season is headed for another exciting finish.

The Guardians (63-57) moved within a half-game of the Yankees (64-57) in the race for the final American League Wild Card spot and two games behind the Mariners (67-55) for the first.

Cleveland moved within five games of the Tigers (70-52), leaders of the American League Central Division.

Hedges' sacrifice fly was part of a four-run seventh inning that saw the Guardians pull away from the Marlins. Hedges went 2-for-4 to secure his first game with two or more hits since August 26, 2024.

OZZIE ALBIES homered, drove in the go-ahead run with an eighth-inning double and hit an RBI single for the Atlanta Braves, who beat the struggling New York Mets 4-3.

Bryce Elder (5-9) allowed three runs (two earned) in seven innings for the Braves, who have a 7-3 record against the Mets this season. Cuban Raisel Iglesias earned his 17th save with a perfect ninth.

The Mets have lost 13 of their last 15 games and their lead over the Cincinnati Reds, who did not play, was cut to half a game in the race for the final wild-card spot.

VLADIMIR GUERRERO JR. hit a two-run homer in the seventh inning, helping Max Scherzer and the Toronto Blue Jays beat the Chicago Cubs 2-1.

Guerrero's blast off Matthew Boyd gave AL East-leading Toronto the series victory. It was the All-Star's 20th home run of the season.

Scherzer (3-2) pitched seven-plus innings while improving to 6-2 in 12 career starts against the Cubs. Jeff Hoffman pitched the ninth for his 27th save.
