Cincinnati. Italian Jannik Sinner extended his winning streak on hard courts to 25 matches yesterday, dispatching Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime 6-0, 6-2 to advance to the semifinals of the Cincinnati Open.
The Masters 1000 is the first tournament the world number one has competed in since winning his fourth Grand Slam title at Wimbledon.
The defending champion in Cincinnati, the Italian had lost his two previous matches against the Canadian, both in 2022 and before Sinner's breakthrough into the professional tennis elite. The world ranking leader hasn't lost on a hard court since succumbing to Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz in the Beijing final last October. He is also the fifth man since 2000 to have a 25-match winning streak on the surface, joining Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, and Andy Murray.
In the women's round of 16, second-seeded American Coco Gauff defeated Italian Lucia Bronzetti 6-2, 6-4 and will next face fellow American Jasmine Paolini, who defeated former Wimbledon champion Barbora Krejcikova of the Czech Republic 6-1, 6-2.
