Federal and state forces take control of security in Pinotepa Nacional

OAXACA, Oaxaca (apro).- Federal and state forces have taken control of security in the municipality of Pinotepa Nacional through Operation Sable after detecting links between some municipal police officers and organized crime, according to the Oaxaca State Attorney General's Office.
Pinotepa Nacional becomes the third municipality, after Juchitán de Zaragoza and Santa María Huatulco, where the Ministry of the Navy (Semar), the Ministry of Defense (Sedena), the National Guard, the State Police, and the State Investigation Agency have taken control of security due to the fact that the municipal corporations are linked to organized crime.
In Operation Sable, eight people were arrested, including municipal officials and police officers, for also illegally using C2.
The Attorney General of the State of Oaxaca, Bernardo Rodríguez Alamilla, explained that this action stemmed from intelligence work that revealed that some municipal police officers were linked to organized crime, leading to the tactical deployment beginning at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, August 11.
"This intervention has led to the arrest of eight people so far, two of whom were in charge of controlling the Municipal Command and Control Centers, better known as C2, as the intervention revealed they had five mirror accounts, when municipal authorities are only permitted one. The existence of the others implies they were sharing restricted information with unauthorized individuals," Rodríguez Alamilla stated.
In addition, at least four municipal police officers were arrested. There are indications that they were involved in irregular activities involving weapons and had links to organized crime.
More than 600 members of the Federal and State Forces are participating in this phase of Operation Sable, jointly taking control of security in this municipality in the Coast region, a task they will carry out for as long as necessary.
Meanwhile, security forces are carrying out various actions, such as patrols and installing security checkpoints. These have led to the detection of stolen vehicles and arrests.
Rodríguez Alamilla stated that this action seeks to arrest priority targets in the region, as well as dismantle criminal cells, to guarantee security through Operation Sable Pinotepa.
Operation Sable is an inter-institutional security strategy that seeks to dismantle criminal networks and arrest priority targets that generate violence. Therefore, operational interventions are carried out to address and regain control of strategic security areas. It also strengthens the capabilities of municipal authorities through collaboration with state and federal agencies.
