The Argentine hockey team defeated Canada 6-0, with goals from Mendoza natives Alastra and Guignet, and advanced to the semifinals. They will close out the group stage on Friday against Paraguay.
After a resounding 3-0 victory over Uruguay, Las Leoncitas shined again in their second match of the Junior Pan American Games being held in Asunción, Paraguay . This time, the Argentine U-21 women's hockey team easily defeated Canada with a resounding 6-0 victory , securing their place in the semifinals of the tournament.
The national team showed great collective strength and won with goals from Mendoza's Milagros Alastra (3), Sol Guignet and Buenos Aires' Pilar Pisthon (2).
Argentina is in Group A along with Uruguay, Canada, and Paraguay, the team it will face this Friday at 7:30 p.m. in the closing round of the group stage.
From the start, Las Leoncitas dominated the game. Guignet opened the scoring 12 minutes into the first quarter, and before halftime, Alastra extended the lead with two consecutive goals from behind the bar (25' and 26').

In the first two quarters, the Argentine team had more possession and created several dangerous situations inside the opponent's box. In the third quarter, Pisthon extended the lead to 4-0 after converting a penalty in the 38th minute, following a great individual play that led to the foul.

Although the Canadian goalkeeper prevented a clear goal from Lara Casas toward the end of the third quarter, the national team continued to press. Alastra completed her hat trick in the 47th minute, and Pisthon again, from the penalty spot, sealed the final 6-0 score in the 51st minute.
On a day where Argentine goalkeeper Mercedes Artola had little involvement, Las Leoncitas once again demonstrated their offensive prowess and are now emerging as serious title contenders.
