Samuele Privitera, the 19-year-old cyclist who crashed during the Giro della Valle d'Aosta, has died.

Turin, July 16, 2025 - Samuele Privitera , the young rider who crashed yesterday during the first stage of the Giro della Valle d'Aosta in the municipality of Pontey, has died. He was immediately treated by paramedics following the race and taken to the hospital in Aosta, where he was admitted with a critical prognosis. He died late yesterday evening. The details of the accident are still unclear and are being investigated by public safety authorities.
In a statement, the Società Ciclistica Valdostana expresses its sorrow for the young man's untimely passing and announces that, in light of what happened, the organizing committee has decided to cancel today's second stage in Passy. The race will resume with Friday's third stage, from Pré Saint Didier to Colle del Gran San Bernardo. A moment of silence will precede the third stage, and the initial section of the stage will be neutralized in memory of Samuele. All formal ceremonies are canceled until the end of the event. The organizing committee, the statement concludes, leaves the teams free to decide whether to continue the race starting with the third stage.
